The Sofia City Court ordered a measure of "detention in custody" for P.T. - the man who stabbed his children and mother in the capital's "Poduyane" district. The incident occurred on February 12, 2026.
According to the prosecutor's office, there is no convincing data and evidence of the accused's mental illness, as well as that there are prerequisites for detention in custody. A reasonable assumption can be made that the accused committed the acts for which he was brought to criminal liability. The acts are characterized by a significant degree of public danger and the most appropriate measure of deterrence would be "detention in custody", the prosecutor's office indicated.
Attorney Irena Karakoleva, the defendant's defense attorney, asked the court to disregard the state prosecution's request. There is no danger that the defendant will abscond or commit another crime. He has a permanent address, permanent residence, and has not been convicted, Karakoleva said, quoted by BTA.
After withdrawing for deliberation, the court ruled "detention in custody". The measure is subject to appeal within three days.
