The Pleven District Court is continuing for the second day in the hearing of the case of the accident near the village of Telish, in which 12-year-old Siyana Popova died.
The accused driver's measure is expected to be reviewed again, for which the lawyers have filed a request to be released from custody.
After a new comprehensive examination was ordered due to the recusal of expert witness Professor Karapetkov, the lawyer of the accused Georgi Aleksandrov, who is currently in custody, said that he had filed a new request.
"The reasons are that the detention has been going on for too long, which we believe has no legal grounds. The other motives are the requested evidence, which we believe will lead to a turn in the prosecution's case."
Siyana's father — Nikolay Popov: "As for the measure, I think the driver should remain in custody, since this person had a conviction for alcohol once, then got back into the car and also has a conviction for driving after a suspended license.
That is, after they release him from here, the next Siyana may be a few kilometers from Pleven. So I think he should remain in custody and this is an adequate measure. It is normal for the defense to want a change, but we are against it."
