Three packages of cocaine worth 293,583.80 euros were discovered by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Customs checkpoint, during an inspection of a truck leaving the country.
On February 27, 2026, around noon, a semi-trailer tractor with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver with Turkish citizenship presents documents for the transported goods - refrigerators and washing machines, from the Kingdom of Denmark through Bulgaria to Turkey. After a risk profile was established, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, including an X-ray. Analysis of the X-ray image shows areas of suspicious density. A customs dog was also involved in the control actions.
During the subsequent physical control, in several places in the driver's cabin, the customs officers found three compressed packages containing a white powdery substance. A field drug test was performed, which showed a reaction to cocaine. The total amount of cocaine found was 3,190 kg, worth 293,583.80 euros, at prices for the needs of the judicial system.
The cocaine, the vehicle and the driver, with the initials M.Y., 30 years old, were detained.
A pre-trial investigation was initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
Investigative actions were carried out during the pre-trial investigation, during which K.A., 58 years old, a Turkish citizen, was subsequently identified, who handed over the cocaine to the truck driver at a truck parking lot. The shipment was supposed to be transported to Turkey.
The two defendants were detained for up to 72 hours by order of the supervising prosecutor.
