Incidents are becoming more frequent at an intersection leading to one of the exits of Blagoevgrad. Due to a combination of problems, the place has become risky over the years. The last incident there was a few days ago.

"All accidents are with cars. This is one of the few ideal intersections in Blagoevgrad for pedestrians - there is a slope on the sidewalk, a sound signal, islands. The green signal for crossing is a bit short," said Magdalena Bizheva, a resident of Blagoevgrad.
According to her, the problem lies in the behavior of the drivers - they drive fast, aggressively, move out at a yellow signal at the traffic lights, BNT specifies.
A roundabout is not an option, because the intersection itself is well built, said driving instructor Georgi Burzakov. Need to change the duration of the yellow traffic lights as they are being detected.
"This is the conflict moment in the intersection, because when some cars can't stop safely at a yellow light, they enter the intersection, and other cars from the other way, who are waiting for the green light, enter the yellow signal again".
The mayor of the city, Metodi Baikushev, said that the concerns of the citizens are well-founded and he spoke with the company that maintains the traffic lights.
"Yesterday we had a loud conversation with the company, as there were quite a few burnt out bulbs both here and at the other traffic lights in Blagoevgrad - this has been replaced. We have an appointment next week to have the programmer on that particular traffic light replaced so that the yellow light detection problem is fixed. The company told me that a programmer from an irrigation system is currently installed, which is a continuation of the situation from last summer - this is unacceptable.
There is a project for a roundabout, for the implementation of which two properties must be expropriated, Baikushev also pointed out. If the experts recommend a roundabout, it will be built.
