Instead of starting the case against Georgi Enev, accused of false cremation, today in The Sofia District Court found that he had died. This was announced by the court.
"A lawyer for the family of Georgi Enev came to the hall and announced that he died yesterday around 2:30 p.m. The court requested an official report on the stated fact", wrote the Sofia District Court.
The accusation is that in the period from January 8, 2020 to May 13, 2022 in Sofia and Bankya Enev, he deceived 19 people that if they gave him money, he would organize a cremation for their deceased relatives. The damage caused to the defrauded is a total of BGN 28,230.
The investigation established that some of the deceased were buried in an unregulated cemetery in the village of Klisura (near Bankya), and there is no evidence of the other part being cremated in the crematoriums in Bulgaria. In the case, witnesses were questioned and dozens of examinations were carried out, as well as an investigative experiment. An administrative hearing on the case is to be scheduled.
Georgi Enev was detained after the remains of seven people buried outside graves were found in the cemetery of the village of Klisura near Bankya in May 2022. For one of them, the prosecutor's office announced that it was a person whose heirs paid 1,000 BGN for cremation.
In October 2022, the court placed the defendant under house arrest.
