Orlin and Plamen Vladimirov, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Evgeniya Chorbanova, are appealing their sentences to the Supreme Court of Cassation.
In February, the Sofia Court of Appeal fully confirmed the most severe punishment for the two for the cruel crime. The decision was signed with a dissenting opinion by judge – rapporteur Petar Gunev.
At the end of October 2023, the Sofia City Court issued a verdict in the case, but it was appealed to the higher court. The body of 33-year-old Evgeniya was found in 2021 in a suitcase, in a reservoir near Pernik. According to the prosecution, the crime was committed in a particularly torturous manner.
