A Czech tourist has been detained for the murder of his 36-year-old girlfriend, also a citizen of the Czech Republic, after a scandal in a hotel room in Primorsko. According to investigators, the motive for the crime was jealousy.

The incident occurred in the afternoon of June 26. At around 1:30 p.m., the Department of Internal Affairs and the Burgas Police Department received a report of a woman in a helpless state, found in a hotel complex in Primorsko. Police and medical teams that arrived on the scene determined her death. Visible traces of violence were found on the body.

"The woman was killed, with visible injuries on her body. Death occurred as a result of asphyxiation of the neck — strangulation with hands", announced Miroslav Zhelev from the Ministry of Internal Affairs-Burgas at a briefing.

The woman's autopsy was performed in the morning hours today. It confirms that death occurred as a result of suffocation. According to Zhelev, no evidence of the use of other means or weapons was found.

The 36-year-old woman arrived in Bulgaria together with her 41-year-old partner from Prague on June 24, and their stay was planned for 11 days. After the crime, the man left the hotel complex at around 06:00 in the morning, took his personal luggage and traveled by taxi to Sozopol.

"After reviewing video recordings and conducting operational-search actions, the man was found in the area of 'Mechkiteni' near Sozopol, hiding in an abandoned bungalow", said Miroslav Zhelev.

During the interrogation, the suspect made a full confession and described the chronology of events. According to him, a scandal broke out between the two, which quickly escalated as a result of heavy alcohol consumption.

"The cause of the crime can generally be reduced to a personal dispute between the two, and during the conflict, the perpetrator took action to strangle the victim", said Prosecutor Georgi Chinev from the District Prosecutor's Office – Burgas.

The Czech citizen has been charged with intentional murder under Art. 115 of the Criminal Code, which provides for a penalty of 10 to 20 years of imprisonment. He was detained for a period of up to 72 hours, pending a District Court – Burgas to rule on his preventive measure "detention in custody". The investigation continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
