„For me, releasing Georgi for 10,000 leva is simply absurd. I think this is a mockery not only for me, but also for the women who are raped by their husbands and their friends. I also think that what is happening is not inaction, but complicity”. This was stated to NOVA by Debora Mihaylova.

The "Debora" case dates back to 2023. It led to mass protests in Bulgaria under the slogan "Not One More". Three charges have been brought against Georgi Georgiev - for inflicting severe and particularly painful multi-level bodily harm with a mock knife, as a result of which 18-year-old Debora received over 400 stitches, for coercion and for threatening to kill the victim.

On Thursday, Georgi Georgiev was released on bail in the amount of 10,000 leva.

“In the end, I am waiting for a 2-year sentence and in the end the criminal is released and I am imprisoned in our country. I am very worried about my family, my relatives and myself, of course”, said Debora.

”He has been released. He is not under house arrest, but is free - he can go wherever he wants, to all public places. The fact is that he has been released, and I cannot go outside. I think that we, women, and people who are victims of domestic violence, should be supported a little more, and not the criminals should be supported, because this inaction, filing a case shows exactly that”, commented Mihaylova.

“I have been waiting for a verdict for two years, I have been waiting for two years to be heard and understood and in return I get… What happened is a slap in the face of all the women who are screaming for help. I don't know how the people who let him go, how they would sleep tonight and how they let this person go free, who has so many convictions behind him. For two years I have seen how more rights are given to the perpetrators and the people who commit crimes than to us, the victims”, said Debora Mihaylova.
