Border police officers continue to search for the driver of the bus carrying 24 illegal migrants from Afghanistan, who was detained last night in the Burgas village of Lozenets. This was confirmed to NOVA by Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, director of the "Border Police".
“We have clarity about who the driver of the bus is. There are blockades in the entire area”, said Zlatanov. However, the driver of the pilot car has been detained, he also confirmed. The man is a Georgian citizen.
Zlatanov explained that work is underway to uncover the higher levels of this channel. “This will certainly happen. Then I will give you enough information”, he also said.
August and September are peak months for us and possibly the most difficult of the whole year. Several times a week we have races with migrants”, explained the head of the “Border Police”.
According to him, the route along the sea becomes extremely dangerous. “On the Southern Black Sea Coast, the entire road and smaller roads are cordoned off with border police patrols”, explained Zlatanov. “When we have a case with a driver who has already loaded a group of migrants and is trying to transport them to some points, then we activate a special procedure of ours, in which we start, on the one hand, blocking measures, and on the other hand, we follow this vehicle. Our one goal is to detain them. The other two are - to prevent other people from getting hurt and to save the lives of the migrants,” explained Anton Zlatanov.
He added that this is how the migrants from yesterday's action in Burgas were also saved.
