Film director and screenwriter Francis Ford Coppola, known for his work on the “Godfather“ trilogy, will sell several valuable items from his personal collection after the failure of “Megalopolis“, People magazine reported.
According to the publication, the director decided to auction off the valuables, including seven expensive watches, because he invested approximately $120 million in the flop, which brought in approximately only $14.3 million worldwide.
Coppola abandoned cooperation with the studios, left and sold a large stake in his wine company Inglenook to finance the filming of his “dream project“, the magazine reported. As the director himself said at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024, “Money was absolutely no object“.
Among the luxury items Coppola plans to auction is an F.P. Journe watch worth an estimated $1 million. He wore it to the premiere of “Megalopolis“.
