American actress Meryl Streep will receive an honorary "Golden Palm" at the opening ceremony of the Cannes International Film Festival on May 14, AFP reported, citing BTA, citing the organizers.
The Hollywood legend, who is 74 years old and has a record 21 Oscar nominations, has so far only participated in the Cannes forum once. This happened 35 years ago for the film "Shout in the Darkness", for which he won the award for acting, AFP recalls.
Meryl Streep is known for her roles in productions such as "Kramer vs. Kramer" (1979), "Sophie's Choice"(1982), "The Bridges of Madison" (1995) and "The Devil Wears Prada" (2006).
In Cannes, the actress will reunite with the chairman of the jury - the director Greta Gerwig, with whom they are working on the adaptation of "Little Women".
Two more big names in cinema will receive an honorary "Golden Palm" this year in Cannes: the creator of "Star Wars" George Lucas and Studio Ghibli of the Japanese animation director Hayao Miyazaki, AFP recalls.
