Svilengrad hosts the International Folklore Festival "Songs and Dances Without Borders"  - 1

Performers from Bulgaria, Turkey and Greece will perform at the International Folklore Festival „ Songs and Dances Without Borders” in Svilengrad, which was opened today.

The start of the musical event was given by the deputy mayor of the municipality Svetlana Dinkova. "We are happy about the great interest in our festival, which has been attracting lovers of folk songs and dances for 17 years, I wish all guests and spectators to enjoy the diversity and uniqueness of our folklore wealth, and the participation of many children and young people shows, that folk traditions are passed on and valued by the younger generations as well", she said in her welcome.

For three days – On June 6, 7 and 8, over 700 participants will perform on the open stage in Mladezhki park. Singers, dancers and musicians from different regions of Bulgaria participate - Haskovo, Dimitrovgrad, Plovdiv, Elhovo, Svishtov, Ihtiman, Kardzhali, etc. This year, three folk ensembles from Turkey are visiting – from the city of Edirne, and two teams from Greece - from the Bulgarian school “Tsar Simeon the Great“ to the Greek-Bulgarian cultural and educational association in the village of Dikea and from the city of Orestiada.

The prestigious jury is in its traditional composition - chairman Prof. Milcho Vasilev - composer and conductor and chief artistic director of the Academic Folklore Orchestra at the Academy of Music, Dance and Fine Arts, Plovdiv, members - choreographer Assoc. Dr. Stefan Yordanov - teacher at AMTII, and Snezhana Yaneva – director of the "Humanitarian Activities" Directorate; in Municipal Administration - Svilengrad.

With a concert by the Academic Folklore Ensemble of AMTII “Prof. Asen Diamandiev“- Plovdiv, from 7:30 p.m. the second festival evening will end.

During the three-day musical event, the Alley of Crafts is organized in the park with the participation of craftsmen from the Regional Chamber of Crafts – Haskovo. Painted and pyrographed souvenirs from natural materials, wood carvings, natural fabrics, embroideries, etc. are available.

The international folklore festival is organized for the seventeenth time by the municipality of Svilengrad and the "Prosveta - 1870" HC. under the patronage of the mayor arch. Anastas Karchev. Over the years, bands from Turkey, Greece, Indonesia, Russia, Peru, Moldova have participated in it.
