The diary and a five-page letter of a third-class passenger on the “Titanic“ will be put up for sale on November 22, the “Daily Mail“ reported.
The artifacts belonged to Ernest Tomlin, whose life story is somewhat similar to Leonardo DiCaprio's character in James Cameron's iconic film.
The Hollywood actor played Jack Dawson, who fell in love with a girl named Rose on board the “Titanic“. Judging by the letter, the 21-year-old Tomlin's heart was broken because of an unknown Rose. The young man confessed to his mother that he cried because of this.
Tomlin wrote about watching foreigners go crazy gambling and playing cards for small coins - in the film, DiCaprio's character won a ticket to the “Titanic“ at cards.
In the film, Jack Dawson dies when the liner sinks. Tomlin is also among the dead - his body was pulled from the rescue ship “Mackay-Bennett“. He was carrying a diary, and a one-dollar bill was found sewn into his jacket.
Tomlin's letter is dated April 10, 1912, and was sent to the Irish town of Cobh. “Titanic“ sank on the night of April 14-15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg, killing approximately 1,500 people. Tomlin had gone to New York to pursue biblical studies.
