Switzerland won the 68th edition of "Eurovision", BNR reported. The artist Nemo triumphed in the Swedish city of Malmö with the song "The Code". 24-year-old Nemo took the win with 591 points. "I hope this contest will continue to advocate for peace and dignity for every person in the world," he said upon receiving the award.
For Switzerland, the current first place is the country's third victory in the music competition, following the triumph of the first winner of the competition, Lis Asia in 1956 and then Celine Dion in 1988.
The contest included 37 countries, with Croatia coming in second with the song "Rim Tim Tagi Dim" of Baby Lasagna, and in third place is Ukraine with the song "Teresa and Maria".
The whole week of "Eurovision" was marked by protests in Malmö against the participation of an Israeli contestant during the Gaza conflict. In the end, Israel reached fifth place in the final thanks to the votes of the public and despite the few points given earlier by the jury.
The very final of the song contest was also held against the backdrop of protests against the war in Gaza. Police confirmed they fired tear gas at more than 100 demonstrators who had gathered outside the concert hall before and during the grand final, waving flags and chanting "Free Palestine".
And just before the final competition night, the representative of the Netherlands was disqualified after an incident backstage and accusations of inappropriate behaviour.
