13 Texas High School Cheerleaders Have Burns On Their Hands, Claiming a teacher forced them to crawl on a hot surface as a form of punishment, NOVA reported.
This left the teenage girls with first and second degree burns. The teacher was placed on leave after the incident.
The girls say they were punished because they performed choreography that was not approved by the local American football coach, who is also a PE teacher.
The victims claim that the coach considered it “disrespectful” and told the team to report overtime the next day. As soon as they gathered, he ordered them to start crawling on their hands and then imitate a raccoon walk for several minutes on the school track, which was heated by the sun to 50 degrees.
The exercise he had them do was crawling on all fours, which was meant to improve body strength and mobility.
