Branimir Hristov and Preslav Simeonov won the first medal for Bulgaria at the European Canoeing Championships for juniors and girls under 18, youth and girls under 23 in Pitesti (Romania). The national team won the bronze medal in the 1000-meter double kayak in the youth under 23, BTA reports.
Simeonov and Hristov covered the distance in 3:18.195 minutes. They finished 1.967 seconds behind the winners from Poland, Valeri Witchev and Alex Borucki, who recorded a result of 3:16.228.
The German pair of Tobias Hammer and Hanno Wortmann finished in second place, 1.847 seconds behind the Poles.
Earlier today, Kristian Georgiev and David Kivel failed to reach the podium on the third day of the European Championships. Georgiev finished last, ninth in the final of the 1000-meter single kayak among juniors, while at the same distance, but in the canoeists under 18, Kivel came seventh.
In the afternoon session, nine semi-finals in the various disciplines of the European Championships in Pitesti are ahead for the national team.
