The nationals in classic wrestling won four bronze medals at the "Druskininkai Cup" tournament in Lithuania. The awards went to Nikolay Vichev (67 kg), Stoyan Kubatov (77), David Dimitrov (82) and Ioan Dimitrov (87), BTA reports. Wrestlers from 14 countries took part in the competition, with Moldova and Ukraine each having two teams. Bulgaria was represented by five competitors, with Petar Gornyashki (72) suffering a rib injury and withdrawing from the competition.
The main referee of the tournament was Nedyalko Kireziev, an Olympic category referee.
"Stoyan Kubatov could have won the title, but in the semifinals he lost in the last eight seconds, after leading against Alexandrin Gutu, the world champion under 23. I am also pleased with the other boys, considering their current preparation. The tournament was held differently from the others - in groups, with the losers going to the other group and in case of a second defeat, they are eliminated. This was good, as the competitors played 3-4 matches, which was our goal," said the national team's head coach Stoyan Dobrev, quoted by BF Borba.
The national team will stay for a week-long camp in Lithuania, and then start at the rating tournament in Budapest, Hungary (July 17-20).
