Two people were killed and 12 were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the Russian Black Sea city of Novorossiysk, the agencies reported, citing Russian authorities, BTA reported.
The attack, which took place yesterday afternoon, hit buildings in the central part of the city in the area of the "Novorossiysk" hotel. Damage was caused to 20 cars, 7 residential buildings, as well as the hotel building in the city center. A state of emergency has been declared in Novorossiysk.
According to local governor Kondratiev, two employees of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium, which is responsible for transporting oil, mainly from Kazakhstan, to Europe through the port of Novorossiysk, were among the injured, DPA notes.
The authorities have warned of the risk of an attack by surface drones. There is no information yet about strikes on military facilities.
The port of Novorossiysk is home to Russia's Black Sea Fleet, which plays a central role in Moscow's war against Ukraine. The port's importance grew after the conflict began, as Russia moved much of its fleet there following the massive Ukrainian drone strikes on the Russian-annexed Crimean peninsula.
