British police have made arrests during a protest in support of the group “Palestinian Action“ outside the Labour Party conference centre in Liverpool, the BBC reported, quoted by BNR.
A group of around fifty people staged a sit-in protest on the grassy area outside the conference centre with handwritten placards reading “I am against genocide, I support “Palestinian Action“.
Liverpool police said the arrests were made on suspicion of supporting a banned organisation.
In July, the government banned the group under the Terrorism Act, making membership or support of the group a crime punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
The protest organisers called for the ban on “Palestinian Action“ to be lifted as a terrorist group by the British government.
Keith Hackett, 71, told the BBC he was risking arrest because he was "deeply ashamed of the actions of Labour".
Another group, waving British and English flags, protested against the government's plans for digital ID cards. Police made sure they did not come into contact with pro-Palestinian demonstrators.
Earlier this month, more than 425 people were arrested at a demonstration against the ban on "Palestinian Action" in central London.
