Russian President Vladimir Putin was congratulated on his birthday yesterday with three billboards located in the central part of the largest city in southern and eastern Serbia, Nis, BTA reported.
The digital screens on “King Milan“ Square, on “Voždova“ Street and at the beginning of “Obrenovićeva“ Street in Niš they show Putin's photo, as well as the message: “Happy birthday, Mr. President!“, writes the “Yuzhni Vesti“ newspaper.
According to the inscription on the billboards, the greeting to Putin is sent by the “Society of Serbian-Russian Friendship, Brotherhood“.
The billboards in Niš were put up at a time when the Serbian oil company NIS is facing American sanctions, which come into effect today, October 8. NIS was placed on the sanctions list because of its relationship with the Russian company "Gazprom Neft". Yesterday, hours before the expiration of the latest postponement of the sanctions, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that Belgrade will continue negotiations to resolve the sanctions problem only with Russia, which has a majority stake in the Serbian oil company.
