Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that a ceasefire in Gaza could be announced "if an agreement is reached today", as talks between Israel and Hamas are close to a possible breakthrough, the Associated Press (AP) reported, BTA reports.
Hakan Fidan, speaking with his Syrian counterpart Assad Hassan al-Shaibani in Ankara, specified that the negotiations were progressing on four main priorities: "a ceasefire, an exchange of hostages and prisoners, more humanitarian aid to Gaza and the withdrawal of Israeli troops".
The Turkish foreign minister added that "great progress has been made so far", with both sides showing “strong will for the release of prisoners and hostages“.
Fidan warned that “Netanyahu's government always tries to disrupt the peace process“, but stressed that all participants “are aware of this and will not allow it to happen“.
He confirmed that Turkey would join the upcoming international meeting in France dedicated to the situation in Gaza and the two-state solution.
US President Donald Trump said he saw “a real chance“ for a peace agreement in Gaza, stressing that US negotiators were actively involved in the process.
