US President Donald Trump said that Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado had called him and told him that she had accepted the prize in his honor, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Earlier, the White House announced that the Norwegian Nobel Committee had put "politics before peace", the world agency recalls.
The White House criticized the decision to award the 2025 prize to the Venezuelan opposition leader instead of Trump, for whom there was an intensive campaign. He himself has repeatedly highlighted his merits for a number of peace agreements, Reuters points out.
According to regulations, the American president could not receive the Nobel Prize for 2025, because the deadline for nominations was January 31 of this year.
"President Trump will continue to help conclude peace agreements, end wars and save lives. He has a humanitarian heart and there will never be someone like him who can move mountains with the power of his will alone," wrote on the social network "Ex" White House spokesman Stephen Chung.
"The person who actually received the Nobel Prize called me today and said, "I accept this in your honor, because you really deserved it," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House last night.
"It's very nice of you to do something like that. I didn't say to her, "Then give me the prize," although I think she would have. "It was very pleasant," the American head of state added.
On the eve of the announcement of this year's Nobel Peace Prize laureate, the first stage of the peace agreement between Israel and the radical Palestinian group "Hamas", which has been fighting in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, was agreed with the assistance of Trump, Reuters notes.
