Russia continues its special military operation in Ukraine due to the lack of other options, but remains open to a peaceful resolution of the conflict. This was stated at a briefing by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS, BTA reports.
„Russia is ready for a peaceful settlement. Currently, the country is continuing its special military operation because there is no alternative“, Peskov stressed, adding that Moscow retains its openness and readiness for dialogue.
„One way or another, Russia will defend its interests and achieve the set goals“, assured the press secretary of the Russian president.
His comment was made in response to the statement of French President Emmanuel Macron, who accused Moscow of "warlike stubbornness" and warned that "retribution" would follow if Russia did not return to the negotiating table.
According to Peskov, Ukraine - with the support of its Western allies - continues to reject proposals for a settlement of the conflict based on just principles.
