A magnitude 4.1 earthquake was registered in the sea off the southern Greek island of Crete this morning, local authorities reported. So far, there is no information about injuries or material damage, the Greek newspaper “Kathimerini“ reported, BTA reports.
According to the Institute of Geodynamics at the National Observatory in Athens, the epicenter of the quake is located 54 km west-southwest of the port city of Falassarna, at a depth of 31.3 km.
Greece is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, although serious damage and casualties in earthquakes of such magnitude are rare.
