US President Donald Trump has left Malaysia for Japan, world agencies reported.
Later today, Trump will be received in Tokyo by the new Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and by the Japanese Emperor Naruhito.
After Japan, Trump will travel to South Korea, where he will meet with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Thursday, Agence France-Presse recalls. The two could sign a trade agreement during this meeting.
At the same time, a new acting US ambassador to South Korea was appointed today, Reuters reported. This is Kevin Kim, who previously served as a senior diplomat in the State Department's Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs and deputy assistant secretary for Japan, South Korea and Mongolia.
A South Korean presidential security adviser said he did not believe there would be a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in the near future, Reuters reported.
Oh Hyun-ju, deputy director for national security at South Korea's presidential office, told reporters that there was no concrete information, despite media speculation about a meeting between the two leaders during Trump's visit to Asia.
The U.S. president traveled from Malaysia to Japan and will visit South Korea after Japan. This is his first trip to the region since the start of his second presidential term.
