United States President Donald Trump said he is confident in reaching a trade agreement between Washington and Beijing, expressing optimism ahead of his upcoming meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, News.bg reports.
The two heads of state will meet later this week in South Korea, as part of Trump's Asian tour.
The US president's statement comes shortly after China announced that the two countries had reached consensus on key trade issues.
“I have great respect for President Xi and I believe we will make a deal“, Trump said during a flight on Air Force One from Malaysia to Japan.
The American leader specified that he plans to visit Beijing in early 2026, after which Xi Jinping will return to the United States. The meeting between the two will take place either at the White House or at Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.
He added that the final agreement on TikTok could be signed as early as Thursday.
Trump also revealed that he had received an official invitation to visit Vietnam, stating:
“If I can, I will.“
