Brussels analyzes the effect of the sale of Lukoil assets - 1

The European Commission is in contact with the authorities in Bulgaria and other EU countries to assess the impact of the proposed sale of the property of “Lukoil“, a Commission spokesman announced during the regular briefing in Brussels, BTA reports.

When asked why “Lukoil“ has not yet been included in the EU sanctions list, the spokesman explained that European sanctions are adopted in order to limit the capabilities of the Russian military machine and in accordance with the strategic interests of the Union. He stressed that any decision on new sanctions requires unanimity among the member states.

As BTA recalls, on October 23, the US imposed sanctions on the two largest Russian oil companies - “Rosneft“ and “Lukoil“, due to the war in Ukraine.

Just three days later, “Lukoil“ announced its intention to sell its international assets, and on October 30, it announced that it had accepted the offer of the trading company “Gunvor“ to purchase “Lukoil International GmbH“, which controls the foreign assets of the Russian oil giant.
