Ministers responsible for the environment and climate protection from the European Union member states are meeting in Brussels today to iron out their differences on the main goals for limiting greenhouse gas emissions within the Union, News.bg reports.
The meeting is taking place just days before the start of the UN Climate Conference (COP30) in Brazil, DPA reports.
The main topic of the talks will be defining a common position on EU climate legislation for 2040. The discussions follow the European Commission's proposal for a 90 percent reduction in emissions compared to 1990 levels, with the measure based on scientific data and analysis.
The European Union continues to follow its strategic goal to become climate neutral by 2050 - an ambition that envisages a balance between emissions produced and the amount of greenhouse gases that can be absorbed by natural ecosystems or through technological solutions.
