US President Donald Trump called the decision of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor-Greene (Republican of Georgia) to leave her post in early January 2026 “great news“.
“I think it's great news for the country. It's excellent“, the US President told ABC News' Rachel Scott. He added that the congresswoman did not notify him in advance of her decision.
Marjorie Taylor-Greene previously announced that she would leave her post on January 5, 2026. In a published statement, the congresswoman said that Trump's principle of "America First" should exclude foreign influence on the policy of the Washington administration. She noted that the interests of corporations and other countries "remain the most dear to Washington". Taylor-Greene stressed that she had been attacked by representatives of the US military-industrial complex.
Taylor-Greene had long been considered one of Trump's closest allies in Congress. Last week, however, the American leader sharply criticized her and announced that he would no longer support her in the elections. Trump explained that Taylor-Greene had "complained" about his political decisions. Taylor-Green had previously noted that Trump has focused too much on foreign policy at the expense of domestic policy.
Later, the lawmaker said she was sharply criticized by Trump for calling for the declassification of documents related to the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of child pornography and later committed suicide. Earlier this week, Congress passed a bill requiring the Justice Department to release documents related to the case. Trump signed it.
