The case related to the July 2024 assassination attempt on US President Donald Trump has been listed as “inactive“, but the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has not closed it and is ready to continue working on it if new leads emerge, an unnamed senior FBI official told Fox News.
According to him, the case has been listed as “inactive“, but if a new “credible lead“ emerges, the FBI will continue its investigation.
The official confirmed that the FBI has not found evidence of foreign interference. “There is no foreign involvement in this case“, he noted. “There is no one outside or inside the United States who directed, instigated or assisted him. The investigation has not revealed any information or evidence linking Thomas Matthew Crooks to any foreign national, foreign government or foreign organization.“
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino also told the television station that “the bureau's conclusion is that Crooks acted alone“.
The assassination attempt on Trump took place on July 13, 2024, during his campaign in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The presidential candidate was shot by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, with one of the bullets grazing his ear. Crooks was killed by the U.S. Secret Service, which protects high-ranking government officials, presidential candidates and former leaders.
