US President Donald Trump said that Washington's plan to resolve the Ukrainian crisis is not a “final offer“ to Kiev.
“We would like to achieve peace. This should have happened a long time ago“, he said. “We are trying to end this, one way or another”, the head of state told reporters and answered with “no” whether this is a “final offer“ to Ukraine.
Trump was also asked what position the US would take if Volodymyr Zelensky did not accept Washington's proposed plan. "Then he can continue to fight as fiercely as he can," the head of the US administration said.
According to the plan leaked to the media, the US and other countries will be obliged to recognize Russia's sovereignty over Crimea, Donbas and other territories that Ukraine will be forced to cede. In return, Kiev will receive American and European security guarantees. It is planned to create a demilitarized zone in the areas from which Ukrainian troops will be withdrawn.
According to Axios, citing a US official, the line of contact between the warring parties in the Kherson and Zaporizhia regions will be frozen, and Russia will be forced to return some areas to Ukraine. The Ukrainian army will be significantly reduced and deprived of long-range weapons. The deployment of foreign troops in the country will be banned, and Russian will become the official language.
Bloomberg reported that the new US plan also includes lifting sanctions against Russia.
