The corruption scandal in Ukraine and attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure could bring President Volodymyr Zelensky closer to a peace deal, The Washington Post reports.
Zelensky has been embroiled in a major domestic corruption scandal and was forced to fire his chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, after his home was searched as part of the investigation.
This “vulnerability,” along with the attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, could make Zelensky more likely to reach a peace deal, a senior European diplomat says.
“I really believe they’ve never taken this as seriously as they do now. And for some reason, it seems to be related to the corruption scandal and all the internal turmoil“, the source said.
