Trump after increased tariffs on Seoul: We will find a way to come to an agreement with South Korea - 1

US President Donald Trump said that the United States and South Korea will find a solution regarding his announced increase in import tariffs on South Korean goods, the country's Yonhap news agency reported today.

In a statement on social media, Trump announced on Monday that tariffs on South Korean imports, including cars, would be increased to 25% because the parliament of the Asian country, an ally of the United States, had not fulfilled its part of the agreement he made with the country's president.

"We will find a way to come to an agreement with South Korea," Yonhap quoted Trump as saying to reporters at the White House before the US president left for the state of Iowa.

The news has alarmed authorities in Seoul. South Korean officials said they were surprised and were trying to find a response to what could be a blow to the export-reliant country. South Korea has agreed to invest large sums in the United States in exchange for tariff cuts, Reuters noted.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said plans for the next stage of further strengthening the country's nuclear deterrent capabilities would be unveiled at the upcoming congress of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, North Korea's state news agency KCNA reported this morning, quoted by Reuters.

Under the leadership of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a large-caliber multiple rocket launcher system was successfully tested yesterday, the KCNA added.
