The UK government will ban maritime services for Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers at the end of 2026, according to UK Foreign Secretary Stephen Dowty.
„In November 2025, I announced our intention to ban maritime services for Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) to cut off access to the UK’s services that support its exports around the world. This measure will be introduced later this year and will come into full force at the end of the year“, Doughty said in a written response to a question from Chris Lowe, a Scottish National Party (SNP) member of the House of Commons (the lower house of the British parliament).
The UK Foreign Secretary added that London has already imposed sanctions on 16 ships carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia, as well as on the Arctic LNG 2 project and the Beihai LNG terminal in China. He also noted that the ban on imports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) into the UK came into force in 2023.
