Tehran prepares to bid farewell to Khamenei - 1

The authorities in Tehran are preparing to pay tribute to the slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Republic's state television reported.

According to the ministry, quoted by TASS, the funeral ceremony for the slain head of state will take place at the “Imam Khomeini“ mosque, in one of the city's central districts, Mosalla. The exact date for the start of the mourning ceremonies has not yet been announced.

The funeral service for Khamenei was scheduled to take place on March 4 at 10:00 p.m. local time and last for three days.

However, authorities later decided to postpone the ceremony due to the expected unprecedented number of people wishing to pay their respects to the slain leader.

Ali Khamenei was killed on the morning of February 28 as a result of Israeli and American air strikes on his residence in Tehran. The Fars News Agency, affiliated with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported on March 3 that the supreme leader would be buried in his hometown of Mashhad after the mourning ceremonies in the capital were completed.
