Authorities have identified the suspect in the shooting at the Hilton Hotel in Washington, from which the US president was evacuated, as a 30-year-old man from California, informed law enforcement officials reported, CNN reported.
A US Secret Service agent was shot at the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday night, three people familiar with the matter told the television station.
The bullet hit the agent's protective gear and he was taken to a local hospital. The agent's condition was not immediately clear.
CNN's Sarah Sidner, who attended the dinner, said that when attendees first arrived, they were asked to present tickets before heading to the red carpet area.
According to Sidner, participants were not immediately asked for ID or to have their bags checked upon arrival.
“It takes a while before you get to these magnets (screening equipment) before they start checking you, your bags, for example,“ she said. “So there will be a lot of questions about security here.“
House Speaker Mike Johnson was also evacuated from the event, his office said.
