Britain's Royal Air Force is launching an airspace security mission in Romania next week. This is reported by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense on its official website, writes BTA.
The certification ceremony for the unit deployed in Romania to perform enhanced airspace security missions will be held on Tuesday (April 9) at the 57th Air Base” Mihail Koglunicanu” near Constanta.
The event will be attended by representatives of the Ministry of National Defence, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Bucharest, representatives of the NATO Air Operations Center (CAOC) in Torrejon and of the British Royal Air Force, as well as the Deputy Chief of the headquarters of the Romanian Air Force.
The British contingent, made up of approximately 220 military personnel (pilots and technical personnel) and six "Eurofighter Typhoon" (Eurofighter Typhoon), will perform in the next four months, together with soldiers from the Romanian Air Force, enhanced air policing missions under the command of NATO.
This is the fifth rotation in “Mihail Koglunicanu” by the British Royal Air Force following those carried out in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022.
“Joint air policing missions contribute to the development of response and deterrence capabilities, as well as to the strengthening of interoperability between the Romanian Air Force and the British Royal Air Force”, noted the Ministry of National Defense in the published information.
