The attacks of the Ukrainian army against the Zaporizhzhia NPP are a very dangerous provocation. This was stated by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS.
"This is a very dangerous provocation. IAEA staff on the ground have had the opportunity to witness these attacks. This is a very dangerous tactic that has very bad consequences in the long run. "The Kiev regime, unfortunately, continues its terrorist activities," he emphasized.
Russia claimed that Ukraine struck three times on Sunday at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant controlled by Russian forces and demanded that the West respond. In turn, Kiev denies being behind the attacks.
According to IAEA data, in the last 19 months, eight times the plant suffered a complete loss of external power, which necessitated the use of emergency diesel generators.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, also announced the explosion of a drone on the territory of the plant, but did not specify which side of the conflict launched it.
He subsequently reported at least three direct hits on the plant's main reactor containment structures, calling the attacks reckless and greatly increasing the risk of a major nuclear accident.
According to the IAEA, over the past 19 months the plant has suffered a complete loss of external power, which is why emergency diesel generators had to be used.
