The water level in Kurgan has stabilized and is starting to drop, announced the governor of the Kurgan region Vadim Shumkov in his Telegram channel, reported RIA Novosti.
„The water in Kurgan is stabilizing and slowly decreasing. This is no reason to relax, as now the main task here is to preserve the dam until the level drops below the dangerous level,”, he wrote.
As specified by the regional management of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a gradual decrease in the water level of the Tobol River near Kurgan is expected in the next one or two days.
A regional state of emergency is in effect in the Kurgan region. 62 settlements, 4,300 houses, 5,550 farms and 600 villas are at risk of flooding, and there are 18,718 people in the danger zone.
According to data from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, as of April 20, 1,989 residential and 3,380 rural houses remained flooded in the area. In the last 24 hours, in two municipalities (Zverinogolovski, Kurtamishski) in two settlements, two residential buildings and two household plots were freed from the water.
