The US and China must deal with their differences in a "responsible way", said the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, during his second visit to the country in less than a year, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
"We have a responsibility to our two peoples - and even to the world - to conduct the relationship between our two countries in a responsible manner," Blinken said in Shanghai, where he met with the local leader of the Chinese Communist Party.
The secretary of state arrived in China yesterday on a mission to step up pressure on Beijing on a range of issues, such as its support for Russia, while seeking greater stability. His visit begins in Shanghai, where he is expected to attend a basketball game between two teams with American players in their ranks.
The head of American diplomacy will speak with Chinese leaders in Beijing tomorrow. He is expected to urge them to exercise restraint as Taiwan prepares to swear in a new president.
Blinken is also expected to voice US concerns about China's trade practices, which Washington considers anti-competitive - a key issue for President Joe Biden in this election year, AFP notes.
