The Danish government intends to expand its military presence in Greenland, the Kingdom's Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen said on the occasion of the launch of the program Arctic Basic Training in the town of Kangerlussuaq in the western part of the island. His words were quoted in a press release of the Ministry of Defence
„Strengthening the capabilities of the armed forces to address the challenges in Greenland and Kangerlussuaq is critical to security. The government is therefore considering, among other things, strengthening the presence of the Arctic Command in Kangerlussuaq. We will also announce how the Armed Forces will develop the Kangerlussuaq Air Port. “I am confident that the future presence and activities of the armed forces will contribute to the continued existence and development of Kangerlussuaq”, commented the minister.
In the program “Basic training in the Arctic“. The first 22 cadets are participating. In the future, 30 people will be trained here each year.
