Taiwan has seen a significant increase in Chinese military presence around its territory. According to Agence France-Presse reports, citing Taiwan's Ministry of Defense, 21 Chinese military aircraft and 15 naval vessels, including coast guard vessels, have been spotted near the island in the past 24 hours.

China has long claimed Taiwan as part of its territory, saying it is ready to use force if necessary to bring the island under its control. That stance was underlined last Thursday when China held large-scale military exercises around Taiwan. These exercises, described by Beijing as a rehearsal for taking over the island, lasted two days and demonstrated a formidable display of military power.

Amidst these tensions, the US has expressed its unwavering support for Taiwan. During a visit to the island, Michael McCall, US Republican, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, commented on China's aggressive maneuvers. He stressed that military exercises aimed at intimidating Taiwan, especially after the inauguration of Taiwan's new president William Lai, demonstrate China's reluctance to seek a peaceful solution.

McColl emphasized: “The United States is and always will be a reliable partner, and no amount of coercion or intimidation will reduce or stop routine visits by members of Congress to Taiwan.“

This statement reaffirms the US commitment to support Taiwan in the face of increasing pressure from China.

The situation around Taiwan remains tense as China continues to flex its military muscle. However, with strong international support, particularly from the United States, Taiwan is resistant to attempts to intimidate it into submission.

The global community is closely monitoring the development of these events, hoping for a peaceful resolution of the ongoing tensions.
