Landslide derails 185-passenger train in southwest Germany - 1

Cars of a 185-passenger train derailed in southwest Germany after a section of its track was buried by a landslide as a result of the pouring rains in the region, reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

None of the passengers were injured and all were evacuated from the train early this morning, a spokesman for German state railways said.

The first two carriages of the train derailed around 11:20 p.m. last night local time (12:20 a.m. Bulgarian time), but did not overturn, the spokesman added.

The landslide was about thirty meters wide, and it also affected a road running parallel to the railway line.

The long-distance high-speed train was diverted due to flooding on the route between the cities of Ulm and Stuttgart. Due to the landslide, all trains between Stuttgart and Munich were cancelled.

Large areas in southern Germany were affected by powerful storms yesterday, with a state of emergency declared in many settlements due to overflowing rivers, DPA explains.
