President Joe Biden in an interview with ABC News was adamant that American weapons would not be used to strike Moscow or the Kremlin after allowing Ukraine to use them on targets in Russia, BTA reported.
Biden spoke with the TV anchor at the Normandy American Cemetery, where he arrived for the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings.
Biden was asked if US-made weapons had already been used in Russia after he signed an authorization to use them, limiting their use to areas near the Russian-occupied Kharkiv region. The president did not respond directly, but specified that they would not be allowed to be used to attack the Russian capital or seat of government.
"They are allowed to be used near the border when they attack specific targets in Ukraine from across the border," Biden said. "We don't allow strikes 200 miles into Russia and we don't allow strikes on Moscow, on the Kremlin.
Joe Biden was also asked about what Russian President Vladimir Putin said that "supplying Ukraine with precision weapons for strikes on Russian territory is direct participation in this war”.
"I have known him [Vladimir Putin] for over 40 years. He has been troubling me for 40 years. He is not a decent man,”, Biden said. "He's a dictator and he's struggling to make sure he holds his country together while continuing this onslaught. We are not talking about giving them weapons to hit Moscow, to hit the Kremlin, but to hit – just across the border from where they receive significant fire from conventional weapons used by the Russians to go into Ukraine to kill Ukrainians."
