A merchant ship reported that there was an explosion in the Red Sea near it yesterday evening west of the Yemeni port city of Moha, the British security company "Ambri" (Ambrey), reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Office (UKMTO) said it had been informed of two explosions near a ship 27 miles south of Moha.
No damage was reported, all crew members are safe and the ship is proceeding to its next port, UKMTO said.
It was not clear whether the incidents reported by "Ambri" and UKMTO are the same.
The vessel described by "Ambri" fits the profile of a target for the Yemeni Houthis, who have been attacking ships off their country's coast for several months, the company said in a statement.
He was on his way from Europe to the United Arab Emirates and did not transmit a signal from the automatic identification system at the time, Ambri said. No other details were given.
Meanwhile, the US military yesterday said it had destroyed eight drones and two unmanned surface ships launched by the Houthis in the Red Sea in the past 24 hours. They also said the Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile over the Red Sea. The U.S. reported no injuries or damage to coalition ships operating against the Houthis or merchant vessels.
The Houthis have repeatedly struck ships with drones and missiles in the key shipping channels of the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Gulf of Aden since November, Reuters recalls.
