Swiss President Viola Amherd said in a comment published in the pages of the German newspaper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" that the Global Summit for Peace in Ukraine, which her country will host, is the beginning of the negotiation process and will most likely be followed from contacts with Russia, reported Ukrinform, quoted by BTA.
„It is clear to us that we will not sign a peace agreement at the end of the conference,”, Amherd said. Both sides of the conflict must be at the table for peace, she added, recalling that Russia was not invited to attend the upcoming meeting in Switzerland. “Russia may be invited to a possible follow-up conference,” she said.
The Swiss president noted that the conference aims to create a platform for dialogue, the first step of which would be the discussion of how to achieve peace in Ukraine.
„It will not be about peace in Ukraine in the narrow sense of the word, but about humanitarian issues, nuclear security, freedom of navigation and food security,” she declared.
Meanwhile, Ukrinform reported, citing the Argentine newspaper “Nacion”, that Argentine President Javier Millay is unlikely to attend the meeting in Switzerland because he will be celebrating Argentina's national holidays in his country.
Milley will travel to Europe on June 12-15 to attend a meeting of G7 leaders, return to Argentina and then return to Europe on June 22-24 to participate in separate events.
„The change in plans is due to the fact that the president wants to be in Argentina for the national holidays on June 17 and 20, so he will return to Argentina on the 15th and return to Europe on June 22, for to finish his tour “, the publication states.
On June 17, Argentina celebrates the National Day of Latin American Freedom, and on June 20 - National Flag Day.
At the same time, Millais canceled his meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, which was supposed to take place on June 19.
The Global Peace Summit will take place in Switzerland on June 15 and 16 with heads of state and government from around the world. The participating countries will draw up a common negotiating position and submit it to Russia. More than 100 countries and international organizations have confirmed their participation in the meeting.
