USA alone are “shooting themselves in the foot” when they impose sanctions on other countries, including Russia. This opinion was expressed by the member of the US House of Representatives Thomas Massey (Republican from Kentucky) in an interview with the American journalist Tucker Carlson.
"At some point other countries will stop using the US dollar as a reserve currency. Putin is right that before the sanctions against Russia 70% of all their transactions were in US dollars, and after the sanctions this figure is less than 20%. The irony is that with all these sanctions we are shooting ourselves in the foot,” he said.
Carlson added that with its actions, Washington is “sending a clear signal that the dollar is not a safe currency”. “The dollar is a reserve currency because it is a safe haven, because it is of a stable country, because we do not intend to use the dollar as a weapon and thus shoot ourselves. But unexpectedly we do this“, noted the journalist.
The congressman also called the US administration's plans to seize frozen Russian assets immoral. "This is theft, it is immoral. But even if you don't care about the morality or immorality of this measure, it is short-sighted“, the legislator is convinced.
