The British Ministry of Defense today rejected a claim by Yemeni Houthi rebels that they attacked his destroyer in the Red Sea, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

The Houthis said they inflicted "accurate" hit on the destroyer "Diamond", but did not indicate whether the vessel was damaged.

"These allegations are false," a spokesman for the British Ministry of Defense said.

In addition, Yemeni rebels said they attacked two merchant vessels, which they identified as "Northern" and "Tavishi". According to them, "Tavishi" who sailed in the Arabian Sea, and "Northern" were struck and a fire broke out on board the second ship.

The Houthis, who control the most densely populated parts of Yemen, began attacking ships off the country's coast in November in a show of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Their actions caused disruptions to global shipping and many companies were forced to divert their ships to more expensive routes off West Africa. In response, the US and Great Britain struck targets of the Yemeni rebels, Reuters recalls.
