North Korean leader Kim Jong-un last night kicked off a key meeting of the country's ruling party, the state-run media reported today KCTA media, a little more than a week after Pyongyang and Moscow concluded a military defense pact, which caused alarm in the United States, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Five agenda items were approved at the Tenth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea convened last night, according to a statement released by the KCTA.
The meeting was chaired by Kim to "review the work done in the first half of the year and decide on a number of important immediate issues,", the statement added.
On June 19, North Korea and Russia revived an agreement reached during the Cold War after their leaders met in Pyongyang and agreed to provide each other with military aid if they were ever attacked, Reuters recalled.
