Israeli Police Clash With Jewish Settlers In Occupied West Bank To Remove Illegal Settlement Post Early This Morning security post, video footage of the police action seen by Reuters shows, BTA reports.
The footage shows police excavators removing the post. The settlers squatted on the land on a narrow road, blocking the access of the police, who were forced to disperse them.
So far there is no comment from the Israeli government on the police action.
Israel is under international pressure to halt the expansion of Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which the Palestinians want to become part of their future independent state, alongside the Gaza Strip.
Such a security post in an agricultural area is illegal under Israeli and international law. Israeli police have in the past cracked down on illegal activities by Jewish settlers in the West Bank, but Palestinian organizations say that in some cases the police are not enforcing the law, especially since the start of the Gaza war.
